DECORATE HAT BOXES FOR STORAGE

This is a new, untouched paper mache box. They come in different shapes....round, heart, square or rectangle.
When they are decorated, they make great storage areas, or good boxes to give gifts in.
This one was decorated with wallpaper on the lid and around the base. A matching border was cut for the trim around the edge of the lid. This is a Christmas box I bought....but you can't use it all year. I covered it with wallpaper border, using the trim of the paper around the lid.
The paper was old labels.
You can use wrapping paper or scrapbooking material. Use 1 part water to 2 parts Elmer's glue. Measure, cut, fit and paste.
.If your border is too short to cover, (only to where the lid stops because putting the lid off and on will eventually wear the paper...), paint a matching color . Measure the paper or border, cut and run water over the glue side in the sink. Let sit for a couple of minutes, then add to box. Use a damp rag to gently rub the air pockets or wrinkles out of the paper. Either paint the lid, or use paper to decorate.
The boxes can be painted a solid color and stenciled.
I prefer painting solid and waxing, for an antique sheen.
Here are more pictures.
Just add ribbon to give the gift.
