HOW TO PAINT BRICK

The top picture is the fireplace of my new home. Yuck. The red brick was painted white. The holes are heat vents and had covers on them. much like register covers. I spray painted them brown. The second picture is the back of the fireplace, which happens to be in my dining room.
You can bring brick back to life, other than have a sand blaster come in, or take the paint off….either one being a huge job.
Paint the entire area of the brick cream or gray, what ever color your “mortar” will be. Purchase paint for the bricks…and add transparent gel to the paint. When you paint a brick that has indentions, the gel will keep some light and dark areas, making it look more like real brick. Using a 1″ brush, outline the brick, then paint the center with a little bigger brush. It’s a drawn out process. You can brush the brick with polyurethane, if you want another finish.Look at my paint paneling post. After I painted the brick, I painted the paneling a lighter color.
