Decoupage is cutting paper and gluing it to items. Paper can be found at craft stores, copied from magazines (for personal use), downloaded from internet, gift wrap paper or Ebay. Decoupage can be done on wood, paper, glass or metal. Find pictures that you like. Photocopy personal pictures. Vines, flowers, hearts, stars and moons, pictures of old labels…etc. Wash the item you will be working on. Dry well. Paint. if needed, first. Cut out the designs. Dampen the paper with water, before adding glue. You can buy decoupage glue or mix 2 parts Elmer’s glue to 2 part water. Stir. Using a brush, glue the back of the design. Place it where you want it on the item. Using a damp sponge, gently smooth out from the center to remove wrinkles and air pockets. Complete all pictures. Brush mix of glue over the pictures, spreading out to cover the item. Let dry….glue will dry clear. Try flowers and vines on a headboard, vines on a chest of drawers, stars and moons on the kids furniture or personal pictures on a small wooden trunk.
