Easy Gifts 3

This would be a great thing for a young, stay at home Mom to do for extra Christmas money.
Cookie Mix in a jar is another easy gift to make. You put the dry ingredients in a quart size canning jar with instuctions for adding the wet ingredients and how to bake. Let's explain with this recipe.
No-Bake Chocolate Cookies
3 cups quick cooking oats.
*put into canning jar and press down to compact and make it level
1/4 cup cocoa powder
*pour over oatmeal, pressing down and compacting
1 cup cocount
*pour over cocoa powder...press
1/2 teaspoon salt
*sprinkle over coconut
Close jar. Cut a piece of fabric or brown paper 7" round. Lay over top of closed lid. Secure around lid with a rubber band.
Print a pretty card with these directions:
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 stick butter
Combine sugar, milk and butter in saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir frequently. Boil over medium heat for 3 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Add ingredients from jar and mix well.
Working quickly, drop by heaping tablespoons onto wax paper . Cool.
Punch a hole in the card, cut a piece of 10" ribbon or twine and tie the card around the neck of the jar, over the rubber band.
M & M Cookie Mix in a Jar
1 1/4 c sugar
1 1/4 c M & M's
2 c flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
Add baking powder and soda to flour. Mix.
Layer into jar in order. (sugar, M & M's, flour) Press down after each layer. Continue as above, cap the jar and write the instructions:

Empty contents of jar into large bowl Using hands, stir around to blend ingredients.
Add 1 stick of butter, 1 beaten egg and 1 t vanilla. Using your hands, mix until blended. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2" apart on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 375 degrees 12-14 minutes, or untill edges are slightly browned.
Cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then move to wire racks.
* Use red and green M & M s for Christmas or pink for girls or Valentine's Day.
* There are sites on the internet that will let you download labels for free.
* Better Homes and Gardens makes canning jars that come with a red and white gingham cap. If you used one of these jars, you could tie a red checked ribbon around the cap and find a red checked card for the recipe. I found the jars at Walmart.
* Use your favorite recipe, layering in the dry ingredients. Write the remainder of the recipe for the wet ingredients, instructions and how to bake.
