Effects of Essential Oils: When inhaled, the essences from the EO pass through the nasal passages into the lungs to the bloodstream to cause psychological changes. It affects the limbic area of the brain, which is related to memories and emotions.
When essential oil is massaged or absorbed into the skin, or brought in through the lungs, changes will occur in the brain.
We remember smells. I remember my grandmother's coffee perking on the stove. She always wore Here's My Heart cologne from Avon. I remember how our home smelled at Christmastime. All orange and pine. That's what essential oil can do for you. It will evoke memories and using a certain oil for it's properties will affect your moods. Lavender will calm you. Rosemary will stimulate, Mint will refresh and Cedar will balance and comfort.
Before we go any further please know that I will never suggest you take an essential oil internally. I am not qualified to do so. Never apply essential oil directly to the skin, unless mixed with a carrier oil.
I have mentioned buying essential oil at Walmart or a craft store. These are not true oils. They have "fillers." Real essential oils, taken from the plant is very expensive and in this learning process, I choose to use the cheaper oils.
For now, let me list the effect oils have on us.

Oils can fit different catagories.
Sometimes you see a name in two different categories. If you mix 2 oils, the first...the strongest scent is called the top note. The second scent which you will detect after a few minutes is called the body. In a case where you have mixed 2 oils, the properties change as does the effect.
